How much do you spend on trash bags every year?
I used to buy those large heavy duty extra strong bags (that cost a small fortune) for my large kitchen trash can. I never seemed to have enough room for all the trash, and would take out the full (almost overflowing) bag every night.
Not anymore!
Last year I switched to a 4 gallon trash can and purchased Ruffies small garbage bags for about $4 a roll (at Target). I get 105 bags for $4!!
The only way I can get away with a small trash can is to try to recycle as much as I can on a daily basis. All cardboard, plastic, and glass is recycled. I recycle prescription bottles, item packaging, junk mail, deodorant containers, shampoo bottles, bar soap boxes....you get the picture. We do not use paper plates or plastic cups, so that lowers the amount that is thrown away as well. We also compost any whole food that needs to be tossed. If it can be recycled in some way, we do it to keep our cost down, and send less trash to our landfills.
So, I take the trash out every other day (unless I throw away chicken or fish bones) and only have to buy 2 rolls of trash bags per year. I like spending less than $10 a year on trash bags!
Try it...you just may like it!
