Want an easy money saver???
Stop buying paper plates, napkins, and towels.
And all those plastic cups and silverware.
I was spending about $15 a month on these things when I got married. I didn't want to do dishes, or wash cloth napkins. Looking back, I could have saved about $180 every year!!!
Eventually you have to do dishes!!
When we got married and moved into our house, we did not have a dishwasher. And washing dishes was not on my favorites list. It was easy buying disposable things. And even easier throwing them away. But one day, when we looked at our budget trying to lower our expenses, guess what got cut first? The grocery bill always gets cut first! So, the first thing to go were convenience buys. I had to wash dishes...and I didn't like it! There were so many other things I could have been doing besides standing there for 20 minutes! Then, after a while, I enjoyed not chasing a toddler,or cleaning up a stain on the carpet. It was my time to relax and get lost in the sink bubbles. I never new it could be a stress reliever!! Then a year later for Christmas my parents gave us a dishwasher! Thanks Mom!!
Next up...napkins and paper towels.
I purchased several 12 packs of wash cloths (on clearance!) at Target for $1.50 each to use as our napkins. I even put them in my sons lunch box for school last year. (I always made sure he had a different color every day.) When they start to stain and fray (about 10 - 12 months), I purchase new ones and use the old ones for cleaning the kitchen in place of paper towels. All I have to do is throw them all in the wash with the bath towels. No extra wash load needed.
It's that easy!
Happy Saving!!
