As I was working on our new Financial Peace budget I was really putting my mind to work. The budget form says 'Necessities' on it. I really had to change my train of thought for that one! I had to decide what was truly a necessity and what was a want. This is a truly honest budget plan!
We started cutting back on things about 1 1/2 years ago after the second heart surgery since we just didn't have any money. We started borrowing movies from my parents instead of spending $4 each at Blockbuster. I started buying Christmas toys on clearence during the year. We also stopped eating 'seconds' at dinner. This one alone has helped us save about $25 a week on food. We also started eating out at healthy places that could feed the 3 of us for under $20.
Now I think I will cut my cell phone service and get a prepaid one. It will be much cheaper than the $39 a month we are paying now. And since I am home most of the time, it's waste of money to pay for minutes we don't use. We are also going to grow more vegetables in our garden this year. This will help cut the cost of our grocery bill. I was so happy last summer when all of our tomatos came from our garden! And, I still have okra in the freezer from last summers crop. It is such a good feeling to grow your own food!
So, sit back a while and think about what you can cut back on to help your family save money.
Happy Saving!!

Definately a reality check for me. Thanks for that! It is wonderful to grow your own food! I love knowing where it comes from and exactly how it's prepared!
The lkibrary is also good for movies and audiobooks. Ours does not have that great of a selection though.
Blessings!!
We had to drop my cell phone as well and went to a prepaid one. No matter to me though since I rarely used it anyway. Unfortunately, the prepaid one I got doesn't have coverage in all areas of the USA.
Does your library system have dvd's available for checkout? We do that instead of going to the movies or buying dvd's (although every now and then we will buy one that we really, really want). Sometimes we have to wait quite a long time on the holds list for the newly released movies, however.
Our library has DVD's but it's not a very good selection. It has a great selection of kids movies and cartoons, but not much for grown ups!
